Here's an example of someone being prejudiced without intending to do so.

A Twitter user - who is prolific in their field of work and acts as an autism advocate - has this in their bio [About Me section]: ".... I am the mother of (A child) who is recovering from autism."

You don't recover from brain chemistry; you recover from coughs, colds and broken limbs.

A Tumblr user called participation-award-winner made the following Tumblr post: http://participation-award-winner.tumblr.com/post/38550594317/the-face-of-aspbergers-syndrome-dont-let-anyone

Obviously I made sure to tell them how disturbing that post was (in my own way) and even said I'd put it on this site.

Take a gander for yourselves at how ableist, misguided and paranoid participation-award-winner is

"Einstein and Newton had been suffering from disorder called Asperger Syndrome which gives unusually advanced abilities in specific areas."

This pie chart shows what kind of research the government did into autism from 2007-2011. https://secure.surveymonkey.com/_resources/34934311/1f5c4d16-e41a-45ab-821b-715cbde460d4.jpg

In case you can't see it, here's how much was spent out of £20.4 million on research into autism
*Treatments & Interventions 18% (£3.7)
*Services 5% (£0.9m)
*Societal Issues 2% (£0.3)
*Diagnosis, Symptoms and Behaviour 5% (£1.0m)
*Biology, Brain & Mind 46% (£9.4)
*Genetic & Environmental Causes 24% (£5.0)

Now, I realise that it's important to find out how the brains of autistic people work... but the amount spent on looking after people with autism after their diagnosis seems disgustingly paltry to me.

[added by the admins - and this chart doesn't tell the whole story. of that 5% on services, 5% on diagnosis and 18% on treatments, only a very small amount would be used on adult services, diagnosis & treatments]

Just started following a comedy account on Twitter called @wisecowtweets.

Their second most recent tweet (at the time of writing): Teaching a dove to inject heroin is like watching a spastic try and eat spaghetti.

DAFUQ.

I was at a seminar earlier about brains. During some of the talk, the speaker mentioned contrasting autistic and non-autistic brains. However occasionally he would talk about contrasting autistic and healthy brains.

On my mum havign read this site and found out I was genderqueer, I explained as best as I could.

She reckons that all the reasons I don't like my female side are to do with me being Aspie.....

My doctor told me that I couldn't have Asperger's Syndrome as I'd been married once
